The Red Clover Book Award is Vermont’s children’s-choice picture book award created to honor excellence children’s literature. Vermont youth in grades K-4 read the 10 nominated books and vote for their favorite.

The Red Clover Book Award conference session takes place Thursday, September 28, 2023, from 3:00-5:00pm. Library staff, teachers, and others who love great picture books will take away ideas and inspiration for discussions and programming.

3-4pm: Author Mark Pett will kick off the session with a keynote presentation. Writer and illustrator Mark Pett’s books include; I’m Not Millie!, This Is My Book, Lizard From the Park, The Boy and the Airplane and The Girl and the Bicycle. His book I Eat Poop: A Dung Beetle Story was the winner of the 2022 Red Clover Book Award. Mark is also the coauthor and illustrator of The Girl Who Never Made Mistakes and the creator of the syndicated comic strips Mr. Lowe and Lucky Cow. 

4-5pm: The Red Clover Book Award committee members will lead an exploration into the award nomination list, highlighting innovative and fun ways to promote and engage book award participation in schools and libraries.
