Vermont Youth Book Awards Conference - Green Mountain Book Award Session Online

The Green Mountain Book Award is Vermont’s teen-choice award celebrating excellence in young adult literature. Vermont students in grades 9-12 read the 15 nominated books and vote for their favorite.

The Green Mountain Book Award conference session takes place Thursday, September 28, 2023, from 9:00-11:00am. Library staff, teachers, and others who love great young adult literature will take away ideas and inspiration for discussions and programming.

9:00-10:00am: Author Dashka Slater will kick off the session with a keynote presentation. Dashka Slater is an award-winning journalist who writes for such publications as The New York Times Magazine and Mother Jones, she is also the author of many books of fiction and non-fiction for children, teenagers, and adults. Dashka’s true crime narrative, The 57 Bus, has received numerous accolades, including the 2018 Stonewall Book Award from the American Library Association, 2019 Green Mountain Book Award. Dashka’s latest title, Accountable, is a Junior Library Guild Selection and has been called "powerful, timely, and delicately written” by Ibram X. Kendi.

10-11 am: The Green Mountain Book Award committee members will lead an exploration into the award nomination list, highlighting innovative and fun ways to promote and engage book award participation in schools and libraries.
