Vermont Youth Book Awards Conference - Red Clover Book Award Session

Vermont Youth Book Awards Conference - Red Clover Book Award Session Online

The Red Clover Book Award is Vermont’s children’s-choice picture book award created to honor excellence children’s literature. Vermont youth in grades K-4 read the 10 nominated books and vote for their favorite.

The Red Clover Book Award conference session takes place Tuesday, October 22, 2024, from 9:00-11:00am.

The conference is a celebration of readers and creators of children's literature. This year we invite students to watch the author presentations in libraries and classrooms across the state! The authors will speak directly to students and have asked us to encourage them to submit questions prior to the conference. Please submit student (and your own) questions for authors through this form by Thursday, October 17. If you plan to view the conference with a group of students, please indicate how many adults you anticipate will be in attendance. When you join the session please share in the chat how many students are in your group.

9-10:00am: Author Maria Gianferrari, who’s book Bobcat Prowling was the winner of the 2023-2024 Red Clover award, will discuss how nature inspires her and the research/inspiration behind Bobcat Prowling, including a reading of the book. Maria’s books celebrate urban ecosystems and the natural world around us and honor our bonds with creatures both domestic and wild. Maria’s most recent titles include Being a Cat: A Tail of Curiosity, You and the Bowerbird, Thank a Farmer, Fungi Grow and To Dogs, With Love.

10-11:00am: The Red Clover Book Award committee members will lead an exploration into the award nomination list, highlighting innovative and fun ways to promote and engage book award participation in schools and libraries.
