Vermont Library Landscape Primer: Mountains of Impact, Rivers of Information, and Occasional Unmarked Twisty Turns Online

Municipal, incorporated, community, a combination – understanding the governance of your library and what that means can be complicated! And what are best practices for working with trustees, the select board, Friends of the Library, a staff made up of part-time employees and volunteers? Maybe you’re new to librarianship or you previously worked in a library system and now feel isolated without that structure. But you aren’t on your own!

Join Department of Libraries staff for an overview of Vermont libraries and strategies to lead one effectively. We’ll talk about governance, state statutes, library policies, reports and deadlines, the joys and challenges of local control, and librarian support networks. We’ll even demystify the many acronyms!

This event is geared toward staff new(ish) to leadership positions in Vermont libraries, but open to anyone who would like a refresher or to gain confidence in areas that might feel like potholes even a few years into being a director.
