Collection Development & Management Core Course Online

The goal of this course is to familiarize students with the principles and best practices related to developing and managing a public library collection that is responsive to community needs. Topics covered will include how to evaluate and use review resources for a variety of formats and genres, weeding, intellectual freedom and how to approach challenges of library materials, collection budget, and collection presentation.

Attendance at the five synchronous online meetings and completion of the homework will fulfill the core Collection Development requirement for the Certificate of Public Librarianship program.
