Collection Development & Management Core Course Online
The goal of this course is to familiarize students with the principles and best practices related to developing and managing a small public library collection that is responsive to community needs. Topics covered will include how to evaluate and use review resources for a variety of formats and genres, weeding, intellectual freedom and how to approach challenges of library materials, collection budget, and collection presentation. There are 5 required synchronous online classes Thursdays, 1:00-2:30pm. There is also some required work outside of class time. This class fulfills the Collection Development core requirement for the Certificate of Public Librarianship program.
